Birgit is a visual artist based in Galway. Originally from Duesseldorf, Germany, Birgit moved to Ireland in the early eighties. After retiring from being a dental ceramist four years ago, Birgit has now focused entirely on her paintings. Birgit’s images have developed from photo realistic images to highly abstracted paintings. Her deep understanding of light, shade and colour breathes life into her realistic subjects but can also be seen informing the brush strokes off her more abstract work. Her practice continues to develop as she explores new vistas both in terms of technique and subject matter, constantly growing as an artist
