‘The Blackrock Challenge’ by Kieran Faherty
Framed original watercolour of Blackrock Diving Tower, Galway
38cm x 48cm
A native of Galway City, Kieran Faherty has resided in Galway all his life. His first introduction to art was when he enrolled for some lessons in “The Paint Box” in Barna where he came to appreciate and understand how water allowed the colours to run together along with techniques blending and creating different texture, learning to work from light to dark tones.. At this time he also worked with his sister in the design of fabrics for her tweeds in her lamb’s wool ladies fashion collections. The colours of the check fabric were inspired from the Connemara landscape. Kieran’s paintings are also inspired by the Connemara landscape, with its constant change of colour in sky, sea and mountain across the bogs and in its woodlands. He likes to extract all its colours and highlight them in his paintings. He observes and holds in his thoughts for sometime before painting from memory. His woodland work is sometimes not recognised as watercolour as it does not have that delicate tone of many watercolourist.
